The Address from the other side of the Souk

Here is another shot I took yesterday from Downtown Dubai. What you see at the back is The Address hotel and in the front is Souk Al Bahar. There were 2 ways I could take this particular shot, one was by having The Address hotel placed in the center and in the 2nd case, to have it placed on the side. In this case, the hotel is placed on the side and the reason why I prefer it to be on the side of the frame is because the eye’s natural tendency is to sweep across the image from the bottom left to the upper right corner. If your landscape shot is symmetrical, then it would make sense to have your subject placed in the center but in this case, since there is no symmetry it doesn’t make any sense to have your subject (in this case, The Address hotel) placed in the center of the frame.

The other reason why I like this shot is because there is inconsistency of light on Souk Al Bahar. You can tell that some areas are brighter than the rest. The reason being that the shadows of the tall buildings behind me were falling on it. This inconsistency made the image look a bit dramatic as well. There is one more shot I have left which I took yesterday from this place and I will be putting that up later.;)

I really like the architectural contrast in this image. The Arabesque style of the Souk Al Bahar and the sleek contemporary styling of the Address Hotel. Great photo! Love the blues and tans.
