The Still Flowing River – Los Angeles

This is my first picture from LA of one of the rivers in LA. I booked my stay in one of the hotels out here in Van Nuys and decided to take a walk down the street on my 2nd day in LA. As I walked across the river, I liked the reflection of the sky on the wet surface below and didn’t want to loose this opportunity to capture it. I darkened up the clouds a bit to give the foreground a slight pop. You would be able to see this river if you are ever walking on Sherman way.

I have been really busy settling down in my new place yesterday and have not had the time to take some great shots of the city. However, I will do my best to take what ever pictures I can of this amazing city and show them to you as soon as possible!:)

Very dramatic image. I think I’ve been bike riding along this waterway!

Very cool man, we don’t see a ton of Los Angeles images like this. Well done!

Welcome to our town, so nice to hear that you’ve come for a visit. I grew up in Van Nuys, right near the area you speak of. If you want closer access to the river bed, go to the south end of Balboa Park, north of Victory Blvd and south of Burbank, on the west side of Balboa Blvd. You can walk down to the river, if it has not been raining too much.(If it has, the water can run high and swift.) The entire channel has not been encased in concrete there because the water table is too high, and there are trees and such, and herons and ducks. It has a very unique look down there, part totally urban wasteland, part strangely riparian.
I always enjoy your photographs and look forward to seeing more. Have a wonderful stay here. – W

I regret that I have given you bad directions! It’s the north end of the park, not the south. There’s a bridge that goes over the river on Balboa Blvd., and it shouldn’t be too hard to find.
